Learn How to Style Your Hannah Montana Halloween Costume

By Dawn Andrews

So many girls want to be Hannah Montana for Halloween this year. There are some great store bought costumes available, but your daughter wants to be unique. She wants something that makes her special. So what can you do?

It would be great if we all had the time and talent to make a totally original Halloween costume for our child but, face it, most of us don't have that kind of time. What I would rather do is find a great web site that sells a wide selection of Hannah Montana Halloween costumes and then spend my time customizing the outfit with accessories.

You can become the stylist and really "make" the outfit by concentrating on the hair, makeup and accessories. Have you ever watched Project Runway? While the designers were focusing on designing an amazing dress, they also needed to give their attention to hair and makeup. It was the entire ensemble and how well all the accessories complemented the outfit that had a big influence on the final judging. So let's look at all the elements of becoming the best Hannah Montana for Halloween.

First, some of the costumes come with wigs and some don't. Be sure you read the details so you know exactly what comes with any purchased costume. If your daughter has long blonde hair, well you are all set. Wear it straight with bangs and you have the Hannah Montana rock star hair. Just look at some pictures online of Hannah Montana and see if you can duplicate one of her styles.

Hannah has long hair. If your daughter doesn't have blonde hair, try using one of temporary hair colors that you can find in almost any drug store. Read the label carefully so you can be sure that the color is temporary and can be removed in one washing. You don't want a long term problem just to have "pretend" blonde hair for one night. I think it is safer to purchase a long blonde wig, or better yet, get one of the costumes that come with the wig. That is the most economical solution - probably even cheaper than buying the spray-in-color.

Always check to see what your costumes comes with before you go any further. But if it did not come with all the accessories, here is a plan. First, a must have is an oversized, sparkly metallic belt. This will add glitter to the Hannah Montana Halloween outfit. Find something that your daughter will want to wear with her regular clothes so you make the best use of your money. If you have a belt around that you are willing to decorate, you can go to any craft store and use some hot glue to decorate your belt with sequins or other sparkly decorations. Be sure you do not decorate the part of the belt that needs to go in the loop or it probably won't fit through. If you do not have the right type of belt, then take a scarf and tie it in place of the belt. Tie it over a belt so it still looks like a belt and not just a scarf.

Next, determine what type of jewelry will be best with the outfit. You can consider a small necklace or large silver cuff bracelet. Just be careful not to over-do it with the jewelry. You are better cutting back rather than wearing too much. You are only trying to add a bit of sparkle, and you don't want to detract from the overall look of the outfit.

Finally, let's put together a plan for the makeup. You must get the makeup right so your young Hannah looks like she is a rock star ready to perform on stage. Take care of those brows. Hannah Montana has well defined eyebrows. Pluck, if needed so you define your own natural arch. Then fill in the brows with a light brown eye shadow using a stiff brush, or you can use a light brown eye brown pencil. Just keep your brows light (no dark brown pencils) but keep them well-defined. Hannah Montana always has a great tan complexion. The easiest way to get this tan is to use a little bronzer. Use a real light touch. Next, a little blush to set off that great tan. Use a little pink, rose, or peach blush. I love the peach blush with the Gold Hannah Montana Halloween costumes. If you are using a powder blush, take a small brush, shake off the excess, and gently apply to the apples of your cheeks. Do it lightly, and then reapply until you get the shade you are looking for. Add some lip gloss and you are done.

You and your daughter can have a blast with this. Become your own Hannah Montana stylist and turn your favorite store bought costume into a unique Rock Star fashion event. - 15431
