Running Criminal Background Checks - Anyone Can Do It

By Glen Pearson

You may have wondered about what's happened in someone's past. One way to find out is by doing a background check. You'll get all the information you need about their history.

Previously, this had to be done by using a private investigator or detective agency. However, this isn't true anymore. We now have the ability to use the Internet to get all the appropriate information about someone without having to make a call or even leave our desks.

There are plenty of good reasons to run a background check. For instance, you might be checking out someone you're thinking about hiring for a job. Or, a friend or family member might be dating someone new, and you'd like to know more about them.

If you're curious about what other people see when they check on you, you can even do a full background check on your own past. You'll see what others will find, and if there are any mistakes in your record, you'll be able to fix them.

Online companies have started putting together huge databases of information so they can offer the ability to do background checks to just about anyone. They've put together huge amounts of data - from public documents to personal histories.

Background checks usually turn up lots of information about the person you're interested in. They may include things like the person's credit, where they've lived and worked, who they've been married to and whether or not they've ever been convicted of a crime. Using one of these searches will tell you all about someone.

You're probably not surprised by the fact that it costs a few dollars to run a background check. However, this is relatively inexpensive. Don't want to spend the money right away? There's one trick you can use to see if you can get free information.

To see what kind of information you can get, all you do is bring up your favorite search engine and enter the name of the person you're interested in, as well as where they live. Remember to put the name in quotations and the city name outside them. Now, see what your get.

Unfortunately, many people share a name with someone else, so unless their name really is unique, you may not find anything reliable. It can be hard to get good, in depth information this way. However, sometimes you get lucky, and the process is free.

If nothing worthwhile turns up, look for reliable background check companies that offer a guarantee on their information. That way, you'll get to know you don't have to pay if the information you want isn't available.

The other thing you should do is look for a company that charges a flat fee to give you unlimited searches, as well as full access to their database. That way, you can pull up as many background reports as you need, and you won't have to pay every time - only the once.

Online background checks allow you to feel like a private investigator, but you never leave your home or office. This is a simple way to find out all about anyone at all. - 15431
