Almost anybody is able to transfer music to iPod with ease, but to add music from iPod to computer is a different matter.
You can simply automatically or manually synchronize your music library from your computer with your iPod to copy the files from PC to iPod, but to transfer back the files the other way around is no easy process.
Apple has probably made this intention in order to protect music companies participating in Apple's iTunes programs and to prevent piracy as well. If your device readily comes with the feature that enables you to add music from iPod to computer, Apple will no longer be able to control the likelihood of piracy and abuse of the feature,
For those of you with clean and pure intentions --- do not despair. Adding music to your computer from iPod is still possible. You can still make a back up of your files in case your iPod crashes.
Music can be added back from iPod to computer, but to be able to do this you need to do a series of steps so your music folder, which is usually hidden, becomes visible.
You will need a software called TinkerTool in order to find the hidden files if you are using Mac. The software can be downloaded from the internet and when you have done that already, plug in your iPod to your computer and then launch iTunes. If iTunes asks you if you would like to replace your iPod's contents with songs from the iTunes library, just say no. Instead, look for the iPod icon from the source list and click on the Manually Manage Songs and Playlists and Disk Use options. Launch TinkerTool and click on the Finder Tab to see hidden files. The Relaunch Finder should be clicked then, while the iPod's icon on your desktop should be double clicked. Inside this folder are several other folders, and one of these is the music folder. Now, drag this to your desktop and copy the files from your iPod.
For users of the Windows application, what you need to do is plug in your iPod and launch iTunes. From the source list of iTunes, choose the iPod icon. Next tick the Manually Manage Songs and Playlist Option as well as the Disk Use option. After doing that, click My Computer twice and look for the iPod icon. After clicking it, go to Tools Menu, click Folder Options, and View Tab. Tick the Show Hidden Files and Folders option, then click Apply. Double click the iPod folder on your desktop and look for the music folder; drag that one out to your desktop so you can add music from iPod to computer.
