Am I in Need of a Web Designer?

By Alice Seba

When business owners decide to take business online, the question always comes up, "Do I need a web designer or can I build my own website?"

Both options are very viable, but you need to decide what's best for you and your business.

Consider these things when planning your website:

Hiring a professional web designer is a good option, as it removes any worry you may have of mastering the task of doing it yourself. Choosing this will also mean you can carry on with your regular tasks throughout the day.

But before you do this, you should know that putting up a website is no way near as complicated as it used to be. Many options exist enabling you to create a site by simply clicking the mouse. Using a professional designer, you will also be subject to their schedule. Designers who work alone often have many clients they are working for at the same time, and need to organize this in such a way that your particular problems may come last. Sometimes this can be a downfall, because the online world is renowned for changing, and changing quickly - meaning you have to be on the ball and continue testing new strategies. If you're going to have to wait around for a designer to fit you in, this can become very frustrating.

Still, if you build your own website, there may be a time where you need to turn to a designer or a programmer if you need special features on your website. Of course, you can learn how to do all these things if you're so inclined, but it can be a time-consuming and sometimes complicated task. This means if you need a message board, shopping cart or other special function, you may need to turn to a designer or a programmer for that task.

So, if you feel you need to create a web presence for your company in a professional manner with advanced features, it is likely that you will need to hire a professional sooner or later. Also, instead of directly hiring a professional, application suites exist that enable you to build a website and add extra functionality. Additionally, add-ons or plug-ins exist for further expansion. Using the above advice, you can see that it's not such a difficult task to create your own online presence for your company, while also still having adequate time to run your business. - 15431
