Tweak your website

By Michael Carpenter

If you want to appeal to the search engines then you need to make sure your website remains fresh and up to date. A lot of people talk about getting to number one on Google, but they dont often tell you how much work is involved in staying there.

The truth is simple " if you want to get there and stay there, you need to work at it and be prepared to tweak your website regularly to remain on or near the top of the rankings. Why is this? Its simply because Google then recognises your website as one that is current and up to date, rather than one which is neglected and hasnt been updated in weeks or even months.

A lot of so-called SE experts believe that the changes need to be huge ones, but that isnt true. Changing your site could be as easy as rewording a story or sentence that doesnt read well, or including a couple of extra links on some pages. There are at least a dozen small ways to update to let the big search engines know that you are still there.

Regular alterations and additions also give your visitors a reason to come back often. If they know there is going to be something new to read and digest virtually every time they visit your website, then you are going to get more repeat traffic and that leads to more sales in the long run.

The trick is to make small changes often, rather than go for big changes only every now and again. Small and regular effort brings better results and more traffic both in the short and the long term. - 15431
